What CrossFit Taught Me About Running a Business: Dedication, Community, and Learning
Running a business is a lot like CrossFit—both require dedication, focus, community, and constant learning to see real results. This morning, as I headed to my CrossFit Box at 5 a.m. , I realized how much these lessons apply to entrepreneurship. Here’s what every business owner can learn from CrossFit to achieve their goals.
Dedication & Focus
To get results in fitness or business, dedication and focus are non-negotiable.
I’ll be honest—I’m not a morning person. (And when I say I’m not a morning person, I mean I hate mornings!) But my dedication to becoming physically fit gets me out of bed at 5 a.m. most days to hit the Box. The results? They’re worth every groggy start.
The same is true for your business. Dedication to your vision, team, and customers is what drives results. Without it, you may see progress, but it won’t be your best. And focus? That’s the secret sauce. Whether your goal is dropping 10 pounds or hitting a million dollars in revenue, laser focus on that objective makes all the difference.
Community: Build Your Tribe
One of the most powerful parts of CrossFit is the community. At my Box, when you skip a workout, they check in. When you’re sick, they care. When you’re struggling, they encourage you. They feel like family.
This sense of belonging reminds me of how I feel about my clients. When I onboard a new client, they become part of our tribe. I want to encourage them, inspire them, and help them succeed. Just like CrossFit coaches push their athletes, I push my clients to grow their businesses and reach their potential.
If you’re running a business, don’t underestimate the power of building a strong community—whether it’s with your customers, team, or partners. A supportive tribe can make all the difference.
Constant Learning: Never Stop Growing
CrossFit isn’t just about lifting weights; it’s about learning. I’ve discovered so much about my body, from proper stretching techniques to understanding what muscles I’m working. I’ve also learned about nutrition, hydration, and even which vitamins to prioritize.
As a business owner, I’ve realized the same principle applies. To be a valuable asset to your clients, you have to commit to constant learning. Whether it’s mastering new skills, staying current on industry trends, or brushing up on old knowledge, investing in your growth keeps you competitive and effective.
Challenge yourself to learn something new every day—it’s the key to becoming the best version of yourself and your business.
